Our Open Day on 25 June was a great success, with more than 180 past students and staff visiting the school with their families to remember school days at James Meehan High from 1974 to the present.
Visitors enjoyed the nostalgia of looking through displays of photos and videos around the school and running into old friends and former teachers. They explored their old classrooms and sampled canteen food at 1980s prices.
The day was also an opportunity to showcase the changes that have been made in education at our school over the decades. Hospitality students operated a cafe from our commercial kitchen, Pacific Islander students performed cultural dances and prepared a traditional hangi, and faculties around the school highlighted their newest teaching programs and technology.
The school has partnered with a number of business and industry organisations that support our students to develop study pathways, career aspirations and leadership potential. Visitors to the Open Day had the opportunity to see the impact these support partnerships are having in preparing our students for the future.
Another focus of the Open Day was to provide an opportunity to say farewell to Mrs Taylor, who is retiring after 23 years at James Meehan High (the last ten years as Principal). Many former students took the opportunity to thank her, and to wish her well in her retirement.

The cafe was popular with visitors. Our local Member of Parliament, Anoulack Chanthivong, was impressed with our Hospitality programs and the school's commercial kitchen.
